Planning
The Parish Council does not have any powers in relation to decisions on planning applications. It is consulted on all applications relating to land and property within the Cronton Village boundary and major developments within Knowsley close to the village border.
In addition, the council is consulted by neighbouring local authorities such as Halton and St Helens on any developments which may impact on Cronton Village.
The Parish Council has a very clear policy on any inappropriate development within the green belt and will vigorously oppose such developments.
On this page you will be able to access Parish Council comments on all planning application consultations.
Please follow this link to the Knowsley Council Planning Application Portal where you can view details of planning applications within Knowsley.
Planning Applications – What Are Valid Grounds for Objection?
Cronton residents have asked what constitutes appropriate planning grounds when commenting on or challenging a housing development application.
When submitting objections (or supporting comments) to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council — or if a decision later goes to appeal — only material planning considerations can be taken into account. Personal opinions alone cannot influence the outcome.
Examples of valid planning grounds include:
- Impact on highway safety or traffic congestion
- Access and road suitability
- Flood risk and drainage concerns
- Loss of Green Belt (where applicable)
- Harm to landscape character or village setting
- Impact on listed buildings or conservation areas
- Noise, disturbance, overlooking or loss of privacy
- Overdevelopment of the site
- Inadequate infrastructure (schools, GP capacity, parking)
- Ecological or environmental impact
Examples of matters that are not valid planning grounds:
- Loss of private views
- Impact on property value
- Personal opinions about the applicant
- Competition with other housing developments
- General dislike of change
If a decision is appealed, it is determined by the Planning Inspectorate based on planning policy, evidence, and whether the local authority has correctly applied national and local planning policies.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Refer to specific planning policies where possible
- Provide factual evidence or site-based concerns
- Keep comments clear, relevant and respectful
Cronton Parish Council will continue to review applications carefully and represent residents’ views within the formal planning process.
Cronton Parish Council
21/02/2026
Cronton Parish Council wishes to inform residents that a new housing development application has been submitted to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council and is now available to view on the planning portal.
Members of the Parish Council are currently reviewing the application documents in full to understand the detail and potential impact on our village.
At this stage, we can confirm that the Parish Council has not yet been formally approached by Knowsley for consultation on this application. As soon as we are notified, we will ensure the council’s response reflects the views and interests of our community.
We will also be arranging a public meeting in due course to give residents the opportunity to discuss the proposals, ask questions, and share their views. Details will be published as soon as arrangements are confirmed.
We encourage residents to review the application online and keep an eye on our page for further updates.

Proposed Taylor Wimpey Development Update - Chapel Lane
The Parish Council and one of our Ward councillors have met with Taylor Wimpey twice over the last two weeks, to register our opposition to the proposed development off Chapel Lane. We have also discussed the development with the current head of planning of Knowsley Borough council and are meeting with his successor later this month. We would encourage everyone to register their opinion on chapellaneconsultation@haveyoursay.co.uk before Monday 17th October. We are intending to produce a petition opposing the development when the outline planning is submitted.
